i'm currently sitting in our junior common room at university college (which you can see above), on a very slow, old computer. wireless is almost non-existant so i can't upload any pictures to this post which is too bad (...a few days later i've added pictures)
so - we left bath on saturday morning, taking a 2 hour coach or so to oxford. this city is huge! and taking classes in a city where so many great men and women went to school is quite intimidating. anyways, on saturday we had a short orientation talk, and a walk around the city. i actually am not nearly as impressed with oxford as i am with bath, and i'm very happy i didn't choose to study abroad here. it's got some cool things to do and see - but it just hasn't made an impression on me the way bath did. we DID get to go punting on sunday though! there were 5 of us per boat, and one would punt while the others got to sit and relax (for the most part). we had our problems getting the boat to go straight and all, but i'd have to say i'm a pretty decent punter :)
since i only had one class on monday morning, none on tuesday, and one at 11 on wednesday, i decided to make a trip to london to see erik & dan at queen mary. the porter at univ saved me from spending more money than i had to by basically planning my transportation to and from london - i took a coach instead of the train and it worked out perfectly. tubed it over to queen mary, and after hanging out for a bit at the uni, erik and i headed downtown to see all the typical touristy must-see sights; big ben (amazing! huge & so ornate!), parliament buildings, westminster abbey, jubilee bridge, the thames..etc.
had dinner at wagamama's, which apparently we have in bath and i'll be going to again first thing. it's a noodle places, with dank dumplings. not even kidding. made a stop at princess louise, a beautiful old pub that only one kind of hard liquor - whiskey. amazing.
then - epic. ministry of sound - 6th best club in the world. sound-proof walls. three huge dance rooms, each one crowded. not one bad song. lets just say i had a really, really good time and it was the best nightclub experience of my life thus far. if you're in london for a night - GO.
since most of tuesday morning was spent in recovery, i got a late start and decided not to do the V&A museum and instead spent a few hours wandering through green park, st. james park, around buckingham palace, and trafalgar square. then met up with erik again and we breezed through the british museum before it closed. saw the rosetta stone. the hyroglyphics were sweet...wished we still wrote like that. so much cooler than this alphabet.
anyways, overall london was really cool but i have to go back for a weekend. i really want to go to the tower of london, national portrait gallery, V&A museum, churchill museum, and a few other places. so much to do there! got one more day in oxford, then on friday morning after breakfast we leave to return to bath, stopping at blenheim palace for a few hours.
can't wait to get back to bath :)
