they've been keeping us very busy with orientation stuff the past couple days...we had to write diagnostic papers for each of our classes which kinda sucked. we've talked academics, social life, getting involved, etc.
i finally made it out tuesday night! of course we had to write a paper the next morning, so i was planning on going easy. long story short, that plan fell through. our house started out at a pub called the Bell, but it kinda sucked so we just had a round there. then we split up and three of us headed off to the pig&fiddle, where we ended up meeting some of the other kids on the program. live music, good beer, and lots of people. after a couple more there, some wanted to find a club. so we talk to some brits and head over to the mole, whish was underground. i guess it was "cheese" night or something, so about half the songs were grease, britney, etc. it was really crowded, and a LOT of fun. met quite a few brits - some cricket players too. a couple girls and i might make them teach us to play...which should be really fun.
and sidenote to all my kappas, there's another kkg on the program and we bonded :)
so - danced, drank, and didn't pass out till 4:30...sarah (housemate) and i agreed that we really integrated into the culture that night, ha.
so on wednesday we had the academic orientation, papers, and some more wandering. today i met the teacher and class i'll be working with for the semester! all the kids here wear uniforms to school, and they're adorable! the teacher is probably in his 30s, and seems really cool and energetic. i'm definitely excited to start getting involved at the school. the bus system kinda sucks though, and i ended up walking halfway back before i could hop on a bus. also today kelsey (housemate) and sam (another house) and i discovered the avon river walk, hence the picture above of the river!
so this is a decent summary of the past couple days, which have been crazy. i hardly have a moment to just sit and hang out...which is completely ok with me since this past summer was so incredibly boring 90% of the time. tomorrow and saturday we don't have much orientation stuff, which means pub crawls - wooot! oh, and next weekend i'm possibly going to cardiff and southern wales for a couple days with some girls in my house - lemme know if anyone's got suggestions about where to go!
xxx (what brits do on fbook)
