the west coast

Day 5: Bakersfield, CA - Stinson Beach, CA

This was a pretty short drive compared to the days before, so we got into San Francisco in the afternoon, driving in through I-5. I was really excited to spend some time in this city, I've never been to California & I've loved the pacific northwest so much! So, we drove through the city for a bit & then headed to Marin County to spend the night at Stinson Beach. The drive was absolutely beautiful...until about 20 minutes in when I discovered that I get MOTION sick on very curvy drives. Wonderful. We had to re-plan our route the rest of the way to Seattle, since I had wanted to drive up highway 1/101 all of the way. But what I was able to see of the coast was stunning, cliffs plunging down to the ocean, hidden beaches...definitely somewhere to return to.

Day 6: San Francisco, CA

We left Stinson Beach before noon, and arrived in the city for lunch with my friend M. on top of the Macy's overlooking Union Square. I LOVE San Francisco! The water surrounding it, the hills, architecture, culture. I only saw the tip of the iceberg, but it's somewhere I could live! Anyways, E & I walked all around the city: Union Square, Market Street, Ferry Building, Fishermans Wharf, Chinatown & back to the hotel.

Day 7: San Fran - Ashland, OR

Since we took I-5, we got to drive through part of Napa Valley

on the way up to Oregon. The rest of the trip isn't quite as exciting, lots of driving & just trying to make it to our end destination.
So there it is! A full week on the road & a few days in Seattle :)

It was the perfect way to spend my time after college graduation & one of the best roadtrips I've taken. Love travel (even within the U.S.)!
